MASONRY STANDARDS JOINT COMMITTEE

The Masonry Standards Joint Committee (MSJC) is an organization composed of volunteers who through background, use, and education have acquired experience in the manufacture of masonry, or in the design and construction of masonry structures.

Working under its three sponsoring societies -- The Masonry Society (TMS), the American Concrete Institute (ACI), and the Structural Engineering Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers (SEI?ASCE). The Committee is charged with developing and maintaining safe, practical and efficient design provisions for masonry using ANSI consensus procedures.

MISSION:     Develop and maintain building code requirements and specifications for masonry structures, along with their associated commentaries.

ACTIVITIES: In the pursuit of this mission,

  1. The MSJC evaluates and ballots proposed changes to current MSJC standards.

  2. The MSJC identifies technical issues needing additional research.

  3. At the request of its sponsoring societies, the MSJC supports their efforts for referencing of MSJC standards by model codes.

  4. Upon request, the MSJC may provide interpretations of existing MSJC standards.

The Committee oversees the development of two standards, The Code and the Specification--each with a Commentary.
